Women. Sport. Leadership. Change for Tasmania.
Why Tasmania Matters
Tasmania’s geography, population spread and access challenges create unique barriers for women and girls in sport – particularly in regional and rural communities.
We see:
earlier drop-off rates for girls
fewer women in coaching and leadership roles
limited access to development opportunities
isolation from networks and support
But we also see extraordinary potential.
WSRT exists to ensure Tasmanian women and girls aren’t left behind, and that local sport is stronger, safer and more inclusive because of it.

How we create impact
Our work comes to life through:
Programs like GAP
Emerging Coaches Scholarships
Leadership forums, workshops and networking events
Community-driven research and advocacy
Storytelling that amplifies local voices and lived experience
Every initiative is designed to be practical, collaborative and grounded in the real experiences of women in sport.
The Core of WSRT
WSRT is the peak independent body celebrating, facilitating and advocating for females in sport and recreation in Tasmania.
We drive cultural change and push for opportunities to ensure sport and recreation is inclusive so that all Tasmanian females can fulfill their potential via participation, leadership and research. Our history and experience show this change also brings lasting health, social and economic benefits across the Tasmanian community.
Our focus is on increasing participation, confidence, leadership, and visibility for women and girls, from grassroots sport through to leadership and decision-making roles.
Our role is simple but powerful!
To connect people, share knowledge, advocate for change, and help sport work better for women in Tasmania.
What we do
WSRT works across the Tasmanian sport and recreation landscape to:
Advocate for gender equity and safer, more inclusive sporting environments
Support women and girls to participate, lead, coach and stay involved in sport
Connect clubs, schools, organisations and individuals through events and networks
Share practical resources and lived experience via our Resource Hub
Partner with community, government and business to create sustainable change
We don’t run sport – we support the people who do.
